In the previous article titled “Eleven-step Pranayama – OM JANAH”, we discussed the fifth step i.e., the planes where the enlightened yogis dwell.
In this article, we will discuss the sixth step or the sixth level of existence – i.e., “ॐ तपः (OM TAPAH)”.
TAPAH indicates the plane of luminous energy shining by the penance of higher beings. Vishnu Purana says that it is the adobe of beings like Vairaja who is one among seven Pitr Deities.
Ascending to the Plane of Luminous Energy: The Power of “Om Tapah”
Beyond the plane of the enlightened beings, lies a higher realm of energy of penance. This energy is emitted by higher beings in the state of penance. This plane, symbolized by the syllable “Tapah,” and is the domain of the proto energy or the primordial force behind the energy of the cosmos as we know it.
As the gross manifestation of the cosmos emerges from the subtle proto energy, it first manifests as THE energy which we perceive. This energy, the life force of the cosmos, is the foundation of all physical existence. By tuning into this plane, we connect with the source of all physical creation and experience the buzzing cosmic energy.
Dipping in the endless ocean of cosmic energy:
Connecting with cosmic energy is like tuning into an infinite source of power and wisdom. It’s about tapping into the life force that permeates the universe, and aligning ourselves with its rhythm.
Deep within our physical bodies lies a vast reservoir of spiritual energy, a potent force that can transform our lives. This energy, is the force that permeates the entire cosmos and that which arises from the proto-energy emitted from the penance of divine beings. It’s the underlying energy that animates all inanimate things, from the smallest subatomic particle to the vast expanse of the universe. This energy is not a static entity but a dynamic force that is constantly flowing, transforming, and evolving.
This proto energy is considered to be the source of all material existence, and it is from this fundamental energy that the cosmic energy emerges.
The mantra “Om Tapah” is the key to accessing this higher plane. When we mentally chant this mantra, we:
Connect with Cosmic Energy: We align ourselves with the life force of the physical universe.
Awaken Spiritual Power: We tap into the power of our own spiritual energy hidden deep within the physical body.
Experience the living NATURE: We connect with the very life of THE mother nature as we know it.
The deity:
In Vedic tradition, the deity for this mantra is “Indra”.
According to Sri Aurobindo, Indra is the lord of the divine mind. He represents the power of pure intelligence and the illumined mind that can dispel darkness and ignorance.
By consciously uttering “Om Tapah,” we invoke Indra and elevate our consciousness to the level of cosmic energy, experiencing a surge of vitality and a deep connection with the source of the physical creation. This transformative experience will lead to a profound transformation of our very being.
In the next article, the seventh step “OM SATHYAM” will be discussed.
