Yajna of Resources: Giving Back to Society

In the previous article, we discussed Atma Samyama Yoga Yajna (yajna of regulation of mind) and in this article we will discuss Dravya Yajna (Yajna of distributing resources).

Yajna of Resources is a concept that encourages the selfless earning as well as distribution of resources. This is applicable not just to material possessions but also to time, knowledge, and skills.

By earning more resources and then sharing them with others, we can contribute to the betterment of society and fulfil our spiritual obligations. Lord Krishna calls this Dravya Yajna.

The Power of Giving:

Karmic Purification: Giving selflessly helps you to purify your karma and reduce negative influences.

Spiritual Growth: Sharing our resources leads to spiritual growth and a deeper connection with the divine.

Social Impact: By contributing to the welfare of others, we can make a positive impact on society.

Emotional Fulfilment: Acts of kindness can bring joy and satisfaction, enhancing our overall well-being.

“Giving” is oblation: Ultimately, by giving to the needy – we can turn our resources into oblations in the fire of their needs. Lord Krishna suggests such performance and calls it Dravya Yajna.

Types of Resources:

Material Resources: This includes monetary donations, food, clothing, and other tangible items.

Time: Volunteering our time to help others is a valuable form of giving.

Knowledge and Skills: Sharing our expertise and teaching others can be a powerful way to contribute to society.

Compassion and Kindness: Acts of kindness and compassion, such as offering words of encouragement or providing emotional support, can have a profound impact on others.

Key take aways for you:

Oblation to almighty: Consider all that you give – is an oblation to almighty and you are performing Dravya Yajna

Mindful Giving: Be intentional about your giving, whether it’s donating to charity, volunteering your time, or simply offering a kind word.

Share Your Knowledge: Teach others what you know, whether it’s a skill, a hobby, or a spiritual practice.

Practice Gratitude: Express gratitude for the blessings in your life and share your gratitude with others.

Support Local Communities: Support local businesses and charities to strengthen your community.

Volunteer Your Time: Dedicate time to volunteer for causes you care about.

Remember:

Within dharmic framework: Ensure your earnings and distributions are within the framework of “dharma”. You may consult scholars of dharma-shastra to know more about it.

Avoid ego: Do not allow your kind actions to develop a sense of superiority over others and also sense of ego.

Be mindful of social media uploads: Your kind acts are oblations to the almighty and not source for attracting attention in social media. Instead of bragging about your work, you may Share stories about how your donation or volunteer work has made a difference. Make it about the beneficiaries instead of you.

Respect the Privacy of Others: If you’re sharing photos or stories involving others, always obtain their consent. Avoid sharing personal information about the people you’re helping, unless they have explicitly consented.

By embracing the – Dravya Yajna, ie., Yajna of Resources, we can live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Remember, every act of giving, no matter how small, can make a significant difference.

By practicing this form of Yajna, we can elevate ordinary acts of kindness into extraordinary spiritual experiences.

In the next article, we will discuss the fifth yajna – “Tapah Yajna”.
